DUSD workers are honored for decades of service

DOWNEY — At the Downey Unified Personnel Commission meeting on May 22, recognition was given to 39 retirees and 113 classified employees (non-teaching support staff) honoring them for their years of service to the Downey Unified School District.

In attendance, congratulating each of the recipients and thanking them for their service were Classified Personnel Commissioners John Kennedy, Dianne Lumsdaine and Angie Rademaker; Board of Education members D. Mark Morris, Bobbie Samperi, Nancy Swenson and Martha Sodetani; and Superintendent Dr. John Garcia.

Employees were honored in five-year increments from five years to 40 years of service. Thirty-six employees were recognized at the five-years of service increment, 18 at 10 years of service, 24 at 15 years of service, 23 at 20 years of service, eight at 25 years of service, two at 30 years of service, one at 35 years of service and one at 40 years of service.

Included in the recipients who received recognition for years of service was Board of Education Clerk Tod Corrin for 15 years and Personnel Commissioners John Kennedy for 10 years, Dianne Lumsdaine for 25 years and Angie Rademaker for five years of service to the students within the Downey Unified School District.

The 39 classified employees who will be moving on to retirement are Norma Apostol (30 years), Cathi Calvert (24 years), Kathleen Child (11 years), Kathy Cooper (21 years), Kathy DeBernardo (20 years), David Erb ( 15 years), Patricia Flinn (25 years), Leobardo Gonzalez (19 years), Jeysel Hernandez (22 years), David Heyer (17 years), Marisela Hoffman (29 years) Larry Jeter (21 years), Beatrice Jojola (37 years), Christine Kasper (34 years), Linda Lopez (18 years), Jim Martin (27 years), Pamela Martinez (36 years), Robert McClure (4 years), Sylvia Mendoza (31 years), Carmina Morales (18 years), Laura Morales (19 years), Maria Moyer (28 years), Sharon Newberg (40 years), Yolanda Ortega (24 years), Patricia Ovalle (23 years), Anna Perez (29 years), Joseph Quinonez (four years), Roger Rendon (17 years), Maria Reyes (27 years), Elizabeth Reynolds (18 years), Guadalupe Rodriguez (13 years), Rachelle Saddler (20 years), Barbara Savage (24 years), Guillermina Serna (16 years), Anthony Taylor (32 years), Keith Walton (17 years), Shirley Wilson (22 years) and Christine Woods (33 years).

In all, the employees recognized represented 1,657 total years of service to Downey Unified students.
