Esther A. Uva

Esther A. Uva passed away January 17, 2015, with her family by her side. Esther Uva was born on April 7, 1943 to Pasquale and Marie Terrameo in Chicago, Illinois. When Esther Uva was 11 months old, her mother and father moved to Downey, California where Esther attended St. Pius X high school in Downey. Esther married Tony Uva on May 9, 1964 and they bought their first home in Downey and raised 3 children, Carrie, Michael and Marie in Downey.

Esther was a very kind and caring person who was always willing to help others. She enjoyed her volunteer work with the Catholic women's guild at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey while her kids were attending school. One of her biggest accomplishments was getting the sale of Fireworks approved in the city of Downey. She especially loved being the Vice President for San Trifone Society at St. Peter's Italian Church and enjoyed planning for such events as the “Day at the Races”.

In 1986 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) yet was determined to fight the disease. In 1998, shortly after the birth of her first grandson and moving to Huntington Beach, she became bedridden and no longer able to walk. She always had a smile on her face and never once complained about not walking.

She enjoyed her Grandsons Jake and Justin Pope tremendously and enjoyed being with family.

Esther was a very special person and touched the lives of many people during her life. She is survived by her husband Tony, Children Carrie Uva, Michael Uva and Marie Uva, Sister Patricia Mansueto, grandchildren Jake Pope and Justin Pope and many extended family members.
