Free flu shots here Sept. 26

DOWNEY - The city of Downey will host a free seasonal flu-shot clinic at the Downey Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.The clinic will be staffed with nurses from Downey Regional Medical Center and Kaiser Hospital. Members of the Emergency Preparedness Committee, the Downey Community Emergency Response Team and many community volunteer groups will be assisting with the operations of the event. Downey Fire and Police department staff will be working the event as well. The L.A. County Department of Public Health is providing the vaccine, the necessary equipment and some staffing for the event. The event is being held at the Downey Theatre this year. Those interested in receiving a vaccination need to enter the City Hall complex from Brookshire Avenue and turn westbound onto Civic Center Drive. Drivers will then be directed to a parking area near the City Library for 'walk up' vaccination service or to the 'drive-up' area for those adults who are unable to use the walk up vaccination service. Please see the map above. For safety and operational purposes, Second Street will be closed at Brookshire (in front of the Chamber of Commerce offices). All clinic attendees will be directed to exit the Civic Center Complex by driving southbound on Dolan Street to Firestone Boulevard or westbound on Second or Third Street. Police Station visitors will be directed to park in the parking lot immediately west of City Hall. The seasonal flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over the age of 6 months. Senior citizens, those with chronic illness, and children are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated.
