Friends hold fundraisers for injured Downey police officer

DOWNEY – Friends, co-workers and family members of injured Downey police officer Ed Hano are holding fundraisers to help the canine officer in his recovery.

Hano was critically injured in an electrical explosion last week during a training exercise in South Gate.

South Gate police officer Carlos Corella also was injured. Both men remain hospitalized.

“During one of the exercises, Officers Hano and Corella were severely injured when an explosion occurred from within the building,” friends posted on a GoFundMe page. “Both Ed and Carlos suffered injuries that left them hospitalized. Our friends now face a long and challenging journey to recovery.”

Donations can be made online by going to GoFundMe.com/EdAndCarlosFund

Meanwhile, Downey and South Gate police officers will host a Crossfit workout Saturday, Sept. 9, at South Gate Crossfit. Registration is $30 with proceeds benefiting the families of both officers.

To sign-up, email South Gate field training officer Byron Austin at baustin@sogate.org.
