Gendreau appointed to Downey financing district

DOWNEY — Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn appointed longtime Downey Unified School District employee and community leader Beth Gendreau to the Downey Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District.

Gendreau will occupy the public member seat on the district’s governing board, which includes representatives from the city of Downey and Hahn’s office.

The Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District, commonly known as an EIFD, was formed late last year. It is designed to capture value generated by potential new development and use those funds for infrastructure projects and other community investment priorities.

“Beth’s dedication to Downey is clear, and I am thankful that she has chosen to take on even more to make her community better,” Hahn said. “This EIFD represents a partnership between our city partners and the County as we bet on the future of Downey, so to have the voice of someone who has given so much back to Downey for decades is essential. I appreciate her service.”

The district’s Infrastructure Financing Plan, which will identify potential uses for the money generated by the EIFD, is expected to be presented to the public in the coming weeks.

Gendreau has worked for Downey Unified for more than 10 years and has been active in the Parent Teacher Association for nearly three decades.

She also serves on Downey’s Public Works Committee and Bond Oversight Commission. Gendreau is treasurer of the Downey Coordinating Council and director of FoodHelp, a food distribution ministry operated by Downey First Christian Church.

“I am honored to be appointed to the Downey Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District by Supervisor Hahn, representing both Los Angeles County and the City of Downey,” Gendreau said. “With my experience serving on the Public Works Committee and the Bond Oversight Committee, I feel well qualified to serve in this capacity.”

Gendreau has also spent years working in animal rescue. She has served as treasurer of LEASH Animal Rescue and has been involved with the Humane Society of the United States.

She previously served as secretary-treasurer of Apartment Investments Inc., a Downey-based corporation.
