Gene Moore

July 26, 1933 - January 30, 2016

Gene Frank Moore, long time resident of Downey, passed away on Saturday, January 30th, 2016, at his home in Murrieta, California. He was 82 years old. Gene was born in Ladysmith, Wisconsin on July 26th, 1933 but the family was not there long before returning to California. He was raised in the Maywood-Bell area and attended Bell High School, then later Paramount High. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served until 1955 as a Chaplain’s assistant in England. He was an active Mason and Shriner for over 50 years and served as Potentate of Al Malaikah Shrine, Los Angeles in 1999. He was the owner of Gene’s Muffler Shop in Paramount in the late 50’s and early 60’s then United Towing Service which originated in Downey in 1963, then expanded to Fontana, Murrieta and Lake Elsinore.


Gene had a passion for anything with a motor. He especially loved boating. When his three sons were growing up, they did a lot of water sports at Lake Mead, Nevada with friends and family. He was also an avid golfer for many years. He loved to have fun any way he could find it and always had more jokes to tell than anyone had time to listen. He has had a full and wonderful life and will be greatly missed by all of his family who will forever love him.


Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia, his sons Tim and wife Kellie, Barry and wife Teresa, son Greg, his grandchildren Ryan (Dana), Sean, Garrett (Bridgette) Brennan, Brooke and Ashley and most recently a great-granddaughter, Makenna Moore.
