Holiday Lane Parade is Sunday

DOWNEY - The Downey Holiday Lane Parade, sponsored and produced by the Downey Chamber of Commerce, will be presented Sunday at 1:30 p.m. along Downey Avenue.Several longtime participants will be on hand for the event, including the Downey and Warren high school bands, Downey Boy and Girl Scouts and the Downey Elk's Lodge, all of whom have been in the parade for all 58 years. Others who have faithfully been a part of this annual community parade are the Compton Sounders, Divine Talents, Downey Fire and Police Departments, and the Wells Fargo Stagecoach. Floats this year include Country Inn of Downey, Downey Elks Lodge #2020, Divine Talent Kids Music, Downey Rose Float Association and, of course, Santa Claus. In addition to Downey and Warren high schools, other bands scheduled to participate are the Bell High School Band, Madrid Middle School Band, Norwalk High School Band, Villa Park High School Band, Workman High School Band, Valley High School Band, Burke Middle School Band, Lynwood Middle School Band and the North Park Middle School Band. The parade route is Downey Avenue from Lexington to Third Street, and then east to Civic Center Drive, where it will disband. The following streets will be closed to traffic starting at approximately 11:30 a.m. for parade formation: 10th and 11th streets between Brookshire and Birchdale; Lexington Avenue between Downey and Brookshire avenues; and Brookshire between Florence Avenue and Cherokee Drive. These streets should be cleared by approximately 3:30 p.m. 5th Street between Brookshire and Downey Avenue will be closed from approximately 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The parade route will remain open to traffic until approximately 12 p.m., when the streets will be cleared for spectators.
