DOWNEY — The Downey City Council will meet Tuesday to conduct essential city business but members of the public won’t be allowed inside.

The closed-door meeting comes as the country tries to control the spread of COVID-19. Downey City Hall closed to the public last week after Gov. Newsom issued a stay-home directive.

Downey will stream the meeting live on its YouTube channel starting at 6:30 p.m.

Mayor Blanca Pacheco, Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Frometa and Councilman Alex Saab are expected to attend the meeting in person, while council members Rick Rodriguez and Sean Ashton will participate via teleconference.

Members of the public have two ways to participate in the meeting:

The first option is to email comments to ccpubliccomment@downeyca.org. You are encouraged to provide your full name, city of residence, public comment or agenda number, subject, and written comments.

Emails should be submitted before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The second option is to participate via teleconference. The phone number is (562) 299-6622.

Callers will be placed on hold in a queue before providing their comments via speakerphone. The time limit for each call is 5 minutes.
