DOWNEY — Gangs Out of Downey (GOOD), a local nonprofit dedicated to keeping the community safe from gang activity, installed new leadership this week during a ceremony that marked a transition in its executive board.
Julie Garcia was sworn in Tuesday as the organization’s new president, succeeding Ronnie Fernandez, executive director of the 10-20 Club, who concluded his term as GOOD’s president.
Former Downey Mayor Alex Saab administered the oath of office to Garcia and the incoming board, which includes Cathy Godinez as first vice president, Bryanna Valencia as secretary, Ray Mesler as treasurer, and Downey Police Chief Scott Loughner as second vice president.
GOOD has long been a collaborative force in Downey, bringing together law enforcement, community leaders, and residents to deter gang involvement through prevention programs, education, and community engagement.
Garcia, who has previously served on the board, said she looks forward to continuing GOOD’s mission and building on the strong foundation laid by her predecessors.
Fernandez was recognized for his leadership and dedication during his term, which included outreach to at-risk youth and strengthened partnerships with local agencies.
