L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn endorses Hector Sosa for re-election

DOWNEY — Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn today endorsed Downey Councilman Hector Sosa’s campaign for re-election, citing his integrity, compassion and commitment to public safety, neighborhoods and working families.

“Hector Sosa has been a tireless advocate for the people of Downey, leading with integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to improving the community he calls home,” Hahn said. “Whether it’s supporting public safety, investing in neighborhoods, or standing up for working families, Hector has always put residents first. I am proud to endorse Hector Sosa because I know he will continue to be the strong, thoughtful leader that Downey deserves.”

Hahn represents Downey as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and has worked closely with local leaders on public safety, infrastructure, social services and other issues affecting the community.

Her endorsement adds to the broad coalition supporting Sosa’s re-election in Downey’s nonpartisan City Council race. Sosa has also earned the endorsement of all seven members of the Downey Unified School District Board of Education, reflecting support from education and community leaders across the city.

“I am honored to receive Supervisor Hahn’s endorsement and grateful for her confidence in my leadership,” Sosa said. “Supervisor Hahn has been a steadfast partner to Downey, and I look forward to continuing our work to keep our community safe, support working families and deliver results for our residents.”

Sosa was first elected to represent Downey’s District 2 in 2022 and later served as mayor. His re-election campaign is focused on maintaining strong public safety services, protecting the city’s financial stability, investing in neighborhoods and supporting responsible economic development.

During his time on the City Council, Sosa has chaired the Budget Subcommittee and advocated for balanced budgets, strong reserve funds and adequate resources for Downey’s police and fire departments. He has also supported efforts to strengthen Downtown Downey, expand youth programs, increase fentanyl awareness and establish the city’s first Men’s Mental Health Awareness Fair.

A Warren High School graduate and longtime Downey resident, Sosa works in financial services and holds a degree in business administration from Cal State Los Angeles. He has served with several community organizations and committees, including Gangs Out of Downey, the Downey Police and Fire Foundation, Downey Los Amigos Kiwanis, the Veterans Subcommittee and the Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities.

Sosa and his wife, Daisy, have been married for more than 25 years and have two sons.
