Letter to the Editor: Don't like Pride? Don't go.

Dear Editor:

It’s unfortunate to come across so many negative comments on The Downey Patriot’s Facebook post about the Pride Festival.

Those individuals should reflect on their public comments. Instead of spreading misconceptions, consider engaging with LGBTQ+ community members to understand their experiences and challenges. Rather than assuming, take the opportunity to learn and appreciate their perspective. Remember, attending the Pride Festival is a choice. If you disagree, you can simply avoid the event and focus on places where you feel more comfortable.

A fundamental principle to remember is the Golden Rule: treat others as you wish to be treated. Upholding this principle can contribute to a better society for the future.
