Letter to the Editor: ICE not welcome

Dear Editor:

I have lived in my home in Downey since I was six months old, 62 years ago. Since that time, Downey has changed from being an all-white community to a melting pot.

I am proud that the city is now mostly Hispanic, and my neighbors on my street are hard working, compassionate people.

When I heard on public radio on my way home last evening that ICE agents had been in Downey disturbing the peace of law-abiding citizens of Mexican descent, I was thoroughly outraged. I do not want the federal government in Downey unless there is a national disaster.

Leave my peaceful, law-abiding neighbors alone, regardless of immigration status. Much rather have them than ICE roaming around terrorizing us.

Jennifer Byram
