Letter to the Editor: Planning Commission

Dear Editor: 

Once again I find myself defending our planning commissioner, Jim Rodriguez.

Your paper published an article with comments criticizing Jim for doing his job well. Our mayor even chimed in, saying the Commission is to focus only on land use. 

So, just rubber stamp any old plan as long as the land use is acceptable? Don't bother doing the oversight the commission should engage in, right? God forbid people have to sit through a meeting. How ludicrous.

I am ashamed of our mayor making a comment like that. I am in favor of Downey becoming more business friendly -- but not at the expense of wreckless development.

Keep asking questions, Jim!
