Lions Club starting local chapter

DOWNEY-Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service club organization with nearly 1.3 million members worldwide, will host a series of meetings at the library as they prepare to open a new Lions Club in Downey.The first of three informational meetings is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the library's Cormack Room. The meeting will last one hour and visitors will have an opportunity to meet Lions club members and discuss possible club projects. Other meeting dates are Oct. 7 and Oct. 14.
