Newborn surrendered at fire station

INDUSTRY - A newborn baby boy was safely surrendered at a Los Angeles County fire station Tuesday, county officials have announced.The mother entered Los Angeles County Fire Station 87, located in the unincorporated area of the city of Industry, Tuesday at 3 p.m. She presented the crew with a newborn baby, about three hours old. As is standard practice, the baby was placed in protective custody as it awaits adoption. Los Angeles County approved a law nine years ago that allows infants no more than three years old to be surrendered at fire stations and hospitals. Since the Safe Surrender program was adopted, 81 infants have been safely turned in.
