Norwalk-La Mirada school district eyes $2 million grant for refurbishment of former Excelsior High School auditorium

NORWALK – Both Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board Member Darryl Adams and Assemblyman Ian Calderon have announced that a state budget request for the refurbishment of the Excelsior High School Auditorium has been approved for the 2017 state budget.

The amount of the grant may is slated at nearly $2 million for improvements to the roughly 100-year-old facility, Adams said.

The refurbishment may include, but is not limited to, upgrading the auditorium's seating, stage area, lighting and sound systems.

Also, school district officials hope to bring the facility up to code with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards.

Formal announcement and acceptance of the award is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. at the regularly scheduled Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District board meeting.

School board meetings are held at the district office, located at 12820 Pioneer Blvd.
