Power line causes small fire

DOWNEY - A downed power line ignited a small fire Tuesday morning, causing a temporary power outage but no injuries.Firefighters responded to a "wires down call" at about 10:26 a.m. near Florence and Smallwood avenues. Firefighters found a small grass fire burning inside an open lot at 7774 Dinsdale St., fire officials said. Firefighters requested a "full-structure response" based on the hot, dry conditions and the threat to nearby homes. The flames were knocked down quickly and only about 200 square feet of weeds and natural vegetation burned, officials said. Southern California Edison shut off electricity in the area as firefighters battled the blaze. No injuries were reported.
