Retired Sheriff's deputy missing in Downey

DOWNEY - A 69-year-old retired sheriff's deputy with a history of schizophrenia is missing after he was released from a Downey hospital last week.Downey police officers responded to a call of a possible homeless man sleeping in front of Frantone's Pizza & Spaghetti Villa on Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. Officers found Larry Everett Starks and determined he was in need of medical assistance, authorities said. The Downey Fire Department transported Starks to Kaiser Permanente hospital. Starks was discharged from the hospital on Jan. 6 and has not been seen since. His last known address is in Florida, but he had a previous address in El Cajon. Starks suffers from schizophrenia and has not been taking his medication, police officials said, adding that he may be delusional and paranoid. Starks is African-American, 6 feet 1 inches tall and weights about 225 pounds. He has a full salt and pepper-colored beard and hair that is balding at the top.
