Rio San Gabriel wins first elementary E-Sports championship

DOWNEY — Old River Elementary hosted Downey Unified School District’s first ever elementary school E-Sports competition.

Three schools - Old River, Rio San Gabriel and Price - competed in three games. The first game was “Rocket League Soccer,” which Rio San Gabriel won, 3-0.

The second game, “Super Smash Bros.,” which Rio San Gabriel also won, 3-0.

The final game was a one-on-one competition of “Super Smash Bros.” In the end, the last two competitors were both from Rio San Gabriel, ensuring the Mustangs would take home the first elementary school E-Sports championship in Downey.

In addition to a trophy, the team received free ice cream courtesy of Creamistry in Downey.
