DOWNEY – The Downey Planning Commission unanimously approved plans on Wednesday for a Rock & Brews restaurant to come to the Stonewood Center.

The new restaurant will be erected in the space on the south side of the mall between Sears and Macy’s, which was formerly occupied by the Garden Buffet Chinese restaurant and has been vacant since early 2016.

The plans that were passed include the possibility for live entertainment.

According to a report to planning commissioners, the restaurant will employ about 120 people, with an average of 30 employees working at any given time.

The restaurant measures 7,440 sq. ft., not including a 960 sq. ft. outdoor patio. Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week.

Rock and Brews provides a family-friendly experience within a rock-and-roll setting, serving American-style comfort cuisine and a wide variety of beers. The restaurant chain was founded, in part, by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss fame.
