Sci-fi author to sign books

DOWNEY - Science fiction writer Nathan Charlton will speak and sign books during a free author event at the Downey City Library on Wednesday at 4 p.m.Charlton, an author and middle school math teacher in Downey, will discuss his book, "Terra Nova: the Search." His novel involves a seismic phenomenon and global volcanic activity that threatens to wipe mankind from the face of the earth. Fearing widespread panic, it is decided to keep the truth a secret from the public. In order to save the human race, the President pushes forward with an initiative to overhaul NASA and begin a mission to colonize deep space.
