Shakespeare play opens on campus

LONG BEACH - William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" opens Oct. 7 in the Studio Theatre at Cal State Long Beach.Presented by University Players, the production is set a long a marginal highway strewn with debris to "refract the play's eternal themes of oppression, exile, transformation and love through a contemporary lens." "When people speak generally of 'As You Like It' the words comedy, love and the character of Rosalind usually pop up first," said director Maureen Huskey. "For me, while I want to find even deeper recesses of comedy in the piece, I also see the play as a fantasy filled with a deep questioning of life." "As You Like It" opens Oct. 7 and closes Oct. 15. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. with one Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. on Oct. 15. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for seniors and students.
