Street Faire a success, organizers say

DOWNEY - Warm temperatures didn't deter thousands of area residents from enjoying the 19th annual Downey Street Faire last Saturday on Brookshire Avenue.More than 200 vendors lined the street, offering their products and services to the community. About 300 classic cars took part in a car show at Downey High. There was also a kid's area with Radio Disney, two food courts and live entertainment. The fair is organized annually by the Downey Chamber of Commerce. A brief scare came at the conclusion of the fair, when the Sheriff's Department's bomb squad was called in to examine a "suspicious" package left near the civic center. The package turned out to be harmless.
