Theater students performing 'Fiddler on the Roof'

BELLFLOWER — Theater department students from St. John Bosco High School and St. Joseph High School are performing the award-winning musical “Fiddler on the Roof” opening this weekend.

Set in the small village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevya, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof’s” universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

Performances are scheduled for March 10-11 at 7:30 pm, March 12 at 2:30 pm, March 16-18 at 7:30 pm, and March 19 at 2:30 pm.

All performances are at the theater at St. John Bosco.
