Virginia Baker passes away at 93

DOWNEY – Virginia Mae Baker died peacefully on April 29. She was 93 and a 66-year Downey resident. She was born in Huntington Park and attended South Gate High School.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Mike) Brooks and Linda Harms; son, Mark (Stephanie) Baker; four grandchildren, Lisa Harms, Brian Grubb, and Kevin and Cassie Baker; and three great-granddaughters, Ashton, Alyssa and Jewel Grubb.

She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Baker.

Warren and Virginia celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2011. They grew up together on the same street in Huntington Park, attended elementary through high school together, and were high school sweethearts.

They eloped to Las Vegas in 1941 adn bult their home in Downey in 1949.

Private graveside services were held at Rose Hills.
