Where to get 'safe and sane' fireworks in Downey

DOWNEY — There will be 17 “safe and sane” firework vendors selling fireworks in the city starting at the end of this week.

The vendors and their locations are:

-          Downey High School Football at 13525 Lakewood Blvd.

-          St. Mathias Academy at 7851 Gardendale St.

-          St Raymond Catholic Church at 12348 Paramount Blvd.

-          Job's Daughter's Downey at 10231 Lakewood Blvd.

-          Calvary Chapel at 12808 Woodruff Ave.

-          Desert Reign Church at 7915 Florence Ave.

-          Dios Con Nosotros at 7502 E. Florence Ave

-          Downey Free Methodist Church at 9245 Florence Ave.

-          Downey High School Band Boosters at 8320 Firestone Blvd.

-          Downey Rose Float Association at 9200 Lakewood Blvd.

-          Downey United Methodist Church at 7676 Firestone Blvd.

-          CC Foursquare Church at 8008 Firestone Blvd.

-          Warren High School Athletic Department at 8626 Firestone Blvd.

-          West Downey Little League at 7399 Stewart & Gray Rd.

-          Warren High School Music Parent Association Inc. at 9001 Apollo Way

-          Elks Lodge #2020 at 11233 Woodruff Ave.

-          Downey Better Baseball at 251 Stonewood St.

The discharge of safe and sane fireworks is only permitted on July 4, between the hours of 3 pm and 10 pm. The city of Downey has a zero-tolerance policy concerning the discharge of illegal fireworks.

Fines for violations start at $2,000 for a first offense, $2,500 for a second offense, and $3,000 for any subsequent offenses.
