SUMMARY OF ADOPTED ORDINANCE

ON APRIL 22, 2025, THE DOWNEY CITY COUNCIL ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE:

ORDINANCE NO. 25-1524, AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING SPECIFIC PLAN AMENDMENT (PLN-25-00033) TO THE LAKEWOOD/FIRESTONE SPECIFIC PLAN (SP 92-1) TO ADD COMMERCIAL RECREATION AND MINOR COMMERCIAL RECREATION LAND USES AS PERMITTED USES WITHIN THE SPECIFIC PLAN AREA

The following is a summary of the adopted Ordinance.

The City of Downey initiated a Specific Plan Amendment to the Lakewood/Firestone Specific Plan (SP 91-2) to add Commercial Recreation and Minor Commercial Recreation as conditionally permitted land uses. This introduction of new land uses to the Specific Plan will encourage property owners to repurpose vacant tenant spaces and buildings in the Specific Plan to diversify the uses in the area. The added land uses are compatible to the existing businesses that may benefit from the increase in foot traffic, and in return fosters a vibrant community-oriented atmosphere within the commercial district.
