Downey man killed in traffic collision
DOWNEY - A 31-year-old Downey man was killed Saturday after another driver lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center divider, causing a head-on collision.Gustavo Pizarro was driving eastbound on Artesia Boulevard in Torrance at 11:40 p.m. when the crash occurred. According to police, a 53-year-old man was heading west on Artesia when his vehicle crossed the center divider and ran head-on into Pizarro's car. Pizarro was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not identified. He was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in good condition. Police do not think drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash but toxicology reports should come back within six weeks. Pizarro graduated from Warren High School in 1999 and also attended Cerritos College. On his Facebook page, he described himself as a "dork, but then who isn't." "I have no drama in my life and I'm shy when I'm around new people," he wrote. "Good thing is that I'm starting to break away from my shy phase. Plus I'm getting ready to go back to Brazilian jiu-jitsu my favorite sport and the only one I'm more or less good at."
