Blackburn receives volunteer service award
DOWNEY - Gerald Blackburn, a member of the Columbia Memorial Space Center's board of directors, was presented an Outstanding Volunteer Service Award from the Huntington Park (formerly Downey) Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Although he resides in Whittier, Blackburn has been active in Downey service projects for many years. He retired from Boeing in 2003 after more than 40 years in the local aerospace industry. He currently serves as president of the Aerospace Legacy Foundation. Blackburn received the award at the church's 20th anniversary interfaith Songfest concert last month. In addition to his aerospace efforts, Blackburn has been active in educational endeavors, teaching at Cal State L.A. and USC, and serving on the state's Education Advisory Committee for Career Technology Education.
