Children treated to free books, puppet show

DOWNEY - Normally a quiet place, the Downey City Library was jumping on Feb. 23 when the Gypsy Johnson Auxiliary of the Assistance League of Downey held its annual Storytime Festival.This free event for children is designed to inspire a love for reading. Children listened to stories read by members of the Gypsy Johnson Auxiliary, picked out free books and bookmarks, and had their faces painted by members of the Assisteens auxiliary of the Assistance League of Downey. Children were also treated to a "Kids on the Block" puppet show, performed by members Betty Ferraro, Christine Eberhard and Maggie Jackson.
