Downey Calvary ousted in playoffs
DOWNEY - The Downey Calvary Chapel baseball team saw their season come to an end on Tuesday, 13-2, against Capistrano Valley Christian in the semifinal round of the C.I.F. Division VI playoffs.The Grizzlies finished their season with an overall record of 20-9 and a league record of 7-3. Windward High School (17-8) finished Delphic League play with a 9-1 record and thus earned league champion honors. The Grizzlies finished in a tie for second place with Sierra Canyon (21-7, 7-3) and earned a wildcard berth. Marshall (12-10, 5-5) finished in fourth place, Milken (2-8, 7-11) finished in fifth place and Kilpatrick (0-10, 1-14) finished in sixth place, respectively. The Grizzlies won their wildcard game against Pacifica Christian 8-4 on on 5/14. The Grizzlies then defeated Salesian 5-1 in their first round game on 5/16. The Grizzlies then defeated Malibu 10-6 on 5/21 in their second round game. DCC then defeated Pasadena Poly 3-2 in their quarterfinal game on 5/24. The Grizzlies will lose seniors Jeremiah Gerl, Steven Evans, Frankie Manriquez, Antulio Garcia and Bryan (BJ) Bell to graduation.
