Higher taxes

Dear Editor:The news that the City Council wants to tax our utilities more is most unwelcome.

The city could have saved $156,000 of our tax money if they had not hired a firm to inform us and try to make it acceptable. In the past, we've seen this city spend like there is no tomorrow. Well, tomorrow is here. The city is broke, in debt and still spending foolishly -- $156, 000.

Our water bills are higher, our electric bills are higher; look at the phone bill and check taxes there. Gasoline is up dramatically, food prices are up, taxes are up. All levels of government must come down as working people and especially retirees have only so much money.

The City Council needs to learn to live on a budget, within its means, spend only what is collected and not keep asking for more tax money. Betty Logan Downey
