Jose Cuevas, 39, mourned

DOWNEY - Funeral services will be held Saturday for Downey resident Jose Cuevas, who died April 30, his 39th birthday.Cuevas was born April 30, 1974 to Jose Luis and Maria Cuevas in Ixtlan Michuacan, Mexico, one of four children, a sibling to one brother and two sisters. He lived most of his life in Compton before relocating to Downey with his wife and two children. He was homecoming king at Compton High School, where he graduated in 1992. He met his future wife, Sandra, during high school and they were married Aug. 13, 1994. Cuevas became a father to Yulissa in July of 1998 and to Izaak in April of 2004. He worked in the orthopaedic device industry for more than 20 years, traveling to New Orleans, Tennessee and Warsaw, Ind., supporting industry seminars for doctors with Ace Medical. He attended sales school with DePut Orthopaedics to investigate moving to orthopaedic sales, but chose to maintain his position in distribution and become a leader, providing a wealth of knowledge and expertise serving the Los Angeles area. He facilitated tens of thousands of suergeries over the span of his career. "Jose was the perfect man; he had all the qualities, good and bad, the characteristics of a human," said his wife. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey. A graveside service will follow at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
