Native American pow wow festival comes to CSUDH

CARSON - Native American culture will be celebrated over two days in April at the third annual Cal State Dominguez Hills Native American Pow Wow.A social and sacred gathering of Native Americans tribes, the pow wow will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, in the university's Sculpture Garden. A pow wow is an educational as well as cultural event that brings together in celebration Native American Nations from across the country. The CSU Dominguez Hills Pow Wow will feature exhibitions of the traditional songs and dances performed by men and women in colorful and elaborate tribal regalia as well as social dancing, singing and drumming, and flute music. Many vendors will be in attendance at the event's Native American Marketplace, selling arts and crafts such as Indian jewelry, clothes, music, books, and food including Indian tacos and frybread. The theme this year honors Native American victims of crime and violence. April 21 to 27 is National Crime Victims' Rights Week. A message board will be available for families to post photographs or articles of/about loved ones who have been victims. The event is open to the public. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs.
