Warren High drama students announce next show

DOWNEY - The Warren High Drama Department will present the one-act musical comedy, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," over two weekends beginning April 18.The original Broadway musical was nominated for six Tony Awards and won two, including Best Book. The musical centers around six young people in the beginnings of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves. This hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The kids learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. This tuneful, offbeat and at times heartwarming show offers audience members the opportunity to become part of the action as on-stage spellers. Tickets are $10 and are available for reservations at (562) 869-7306 ext. 87910 or at emersontheatre.net. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. in Warren High's Emerson Theater and the public is invited. All proceeds go to the Warren High Drama Department for their continued quest for young adult theatre. Some subject material may not be suitable for younger audiences.
