5 Questions: Carl Causly
"5 Questions" is an occasional feature in which we ask five questions of Downey business and community leaders. This week's participant is Carl Causly, fitness instructor at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center.1.) So many people make losing weight part of their New Year's resolutions. What's the best way for someone to get started on a healthier lifestyle? You have to set short term goals, Remember it's not about perfection but consistency, also sign up for an exercise class or workout with a friend. That puts you around people with the same goals. 2.) When it comes to eating healthy, how do you keep things from getting boring? Don't eat the same foods mix it up and spice it up, add flavor to your food and also don't deprive yourself of any one food group. 3.) Is it OK to have a "cheat" day or do you recommend against that? I believe In cheat days because it allows you to reward yourself for your hard work, it also has been proven that it helps keep you consistent because you have something to look forward to. 4.) Where are your favorite places to workout in Downey? I love jogging through the city it's more exciting than walking on a treadmill. I also like working out at Apollo Park because there is usually others working out and that helps motivate me. 5.) What kind of classes do you lead at the community center? And are they for seniors only? I teach a body sculpt class, cardio kickboxing class, kids fitness class, circuit training class and a group personal training class. Even though I teach at the senior center my classes are actually 18 and over except the kids class is age 9-13. Interview by Eric Pierce
