Macy's raising money for Independence Park

DOWNEY - Starting Friday, customers of the Macy's department store at Stonewood Center will have the option of donating $1 or more at checkout to benefit upgrades at Independence Park.Macy's will match the first $250,000 donated nationally. The campaign, "Love Your Park," is a partnership between Macy's and the National Recreation and Park Association. The campaign is from March 7-31, and donations are expected to be dispersed to the city by June 2. It has not been decided how the funds will be used, but preliminary ideas include bicycle racks or charcoal dump stations, picnics tables, or ADA-compliant drinking fountains. "We are thrilled to partner with Macy's and NRPA for 'Heart Your Park' this spring," said Mayor Fernando Vasquez. "Through this wonderful program and donations by Macy's customers, we are excited about the additional funding we will receive to help make improvements at Independence Park and we greatly appreciate Macy's support."
