Library offers reading prizes

DOWNEY – The Downey City Library’s summer reading program for kids, “Fizz, Boom, Read,” starts this Monday at 10 a.m. The library is challenging kids up to age 12 to read 20 books or 1,000 pages this  summer.

Kids can enroll in the challenge until July 26 and receive a free reading log, bookmark, and list of events. Children can read the books at home or at the library, or for younger kids, have adults read the books aloud to them.

Beginning June 30, kids who read five books or 250 pages receive a free book bag. Other prizes include a magnetic bookmark (10 books or 250 pages), reading medal (15 books or 750 pages), and a free book and certificate of completion (20 books or 1,000 pages).

Prizes will be distributed until Aug. 2. For more information, call the library at (562) 904-7360, ext. 127.
