Luz Paloma passes away

DOWNEY – Luz Maria Paloma, who with her husband opened Marisa’s Mexican Restaurant in Downey in 1975, died Oct. 2, family members announced. Luz was born Feb. 14, 1939, and came to the United States from Mexico in 1971 with her husband, Fidel, and their children, Fabiola, Fidel and Guillermo.

“Luz and Fidel poured their heart and soul into the restaurant and the customers responded,” family members said. “Luz’s recipes made Marisa’s one of the city’s favorite restaurants, and shortly after they had two locations in Downey.”

The restaurant is named for their youngest daughter, who was two years old at the time.

A viewing will take place Sunday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. at Forest Lawn in Cypress. The funeral is Monday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m at Holy Family Church in Artesia, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn.
