Priscilla Flores named Woman of the Year

DOWNEY – Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia has named Priscilla Flores “Woman of the Year” for the city of Downey. Flores was born with muscular dystrophy, which involves muscle weakness, and loss of muscle tissue.

As a child, she was a patient of Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. At her young age, doctors told her that she would be confined to a bed at the age of 13, and most likely die before her 20th birthday.

Priscilla celebrated her 45th birthday on March 13, alongside her husband and her 22-year-old daughter, Faith.

“Mrs. Priscilla Flores is a role model and an inspiration for many people, including the disability community, but more importantly, for the women within the disabled community,” Garcia said.
