DOWNEY – Summer 101, Downey Adult School’s four-week summer educational program, has finished its sixth year.

The program was held at West Middle School this year for students in grades 1-8. This year, Downey Adult School partnered with the YMCA,  making this year’s program “the most successful since Summer 101 began in 2008.”

The YMCA supplemented the program by providing morning and after-school day care, two different elective classes, and two meal periods for each student.

Students chose from different courses, including “Rockets and Robotics,” “Mad Scientist in the Making,” “Chef University,” “Art Extravaganza” and “Architecture.”

Downey teachers taught the course, with help from 67 volunteers daily.

Summer 101 is available annually for DUSD students and begins at the conclusion of each school year.
