Asian percussion group performing in Cerritos
CERRITOS - East meets West when the Ju Percussion Group comes to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Friday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m.The show is sponsored in part by World Journal. Founded in 1986 by percussionist Ju Tzong-Ching, the Jue Percussion Group is the first percussion ensemble established in Taiwan. Embraced worldwide for its innovative blending of the contemporary with tradition, the band mixes up Western percussion instruments with Chinese gong-drum music and other Asian sounds to memorable effect. The group members are "eager, active and highly competent performers," cheers The New York Times. The paper raved about the unmistakable energy and personalized drumming on display in the shows. Over the years, the group has successfully fanned percussion fever throughout the world.
