Daughter of Jenni Rivera is parade marshal
LYNWOOD - Lynwood will host its 92nd annual Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade this Friday, Dec. 6, from 8-9 p.m.Janney "Chiquis" Rivera, oldest daughter of the late Jenni Rivera, is grand marshal. Over the last 10 years, several members of the famous Rivera family have served as parade marshals. Also scheduled to participate are local politicians, Little League teams and up-and-coming musical artists such as Rickardo Torres, Gonzalo Arruza and Vicky Cabrera. The parade features more than 100 floats, dance troups, marching bands and an array of homegrown "superstars," including Lynwood High School's varsity girls basketball team who are serving as parade marshals. The parade begins at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue and proceeds west toward Bullis Road. This year's parade is more homegrown than ever, said Rosie Carillo, a recreation superintendent with Lynwood. "Our Candy Cane Lane Parade is a tradition," Carillo said. "So when you have local businesses and families giving what they could despite the economy to help keep the parade going when it faced being cut due to budget cuts, that's when it became a real hometown parade."
