Gay community

Dear Editor:As a young, lesbian Latina that has lived in Downey her entire life, I don't think I am too happy about the news of a Chick-Fil-A coming to our wonderful city. Their views on the gay community are repugnant, and I can't believe Downey would support it. Why can't Downey have more McDonald's, for example? I am a frequent customer and have never felt discriminated in those establishments. But I am aware that those plans have been set in motion and there's really nothing I can do about the fact. However, I can suggest that Downey show its support for its gay community by throwing a celebration, or a carnival, in support of gay pride. A lot of Downey residents go out of their way to hang out at Flux Bar, a gay club, which is in Lakewood. Imagine if there was a safe place in Downey where its gay community could freely be themselves. We might even attract others from neighboring communities and build our economy. Katie Solozano Downey
