Immaturity in D.C.
Dear Editor:Financial advisor Paul Schatz, president of Heritage Capital LLC, has stated "President Barack Obama is an idiot, and House Speaker John Boehner is a moron." (Investment News Daily, 10/17/13) In view of the dysfunction prevalent in Washington these days, I don't agree with Mr. Schatz's generous appraisal of the aforementioned government officials. In order for government to work, it requires adults making decisions. Sadly, as we have seen from the carnival in Washington, we have not elected adults to most public offices. The reasons are fairly obvious to me, I can't imagine an intelligent adult wanting a political career and that is why we have ended up with so many immature people in government. We have seen Congress and the White House kick the can forward and not face the reality of our financial situation and postponed decisions for early next year, which means that we'll go through the same charade again when they will probably postpone to make hard decisions until after the next election. The government people have to learn one very basic thing regarding finances. No individual city, state or the country can spend more money than they earn. Until such a simple concept is accepted in government circles we'll continue to have financial crisis in government. Sadly, there is little hope that this problem will disappear. I joined a political party so that I could vote in primaries but I don't vote the party line. I vote the issues. My criticism of government is bipartisan since I haven't seen any evidence of mature behavior in any of the political parties that hold office in Washington. Jorge Montero Downey
