Progressives

Dear Editor:Regarding the editorial by Lee H. Hamilton ("What You Need to Know About Congress," 8/15/13), here's a different point of view: Let's look at Congress and ask this question: What's wrong with Congress? It should be plain as day to everyone in the United States that Progs (Progressives) are dangerous and that Progs are a menace (agitators, bullies, harassers, intimidators, occupiers, looters, control freaks, schemers, intruders, deceivers) and that Progs are a hazard to the well-being of the American people and the country. Clearly, Progs do not believe in governing in accordance with the founding concepts established by our Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Over the last several years, taxpayers - that would be those people who are forced to pick up the tab for the Progs' addiction to reckless spending habits - have watched helplessly as Progs have moved the USA "forward" with annual deficit spending exceeding $1 trillion. Does anyone remember 2007, a short six years ago, when deficit spending was $162 billion? Does anyone remember a short six years ago when the debt was approximately $8.7 trillion? Does anyone remember when then Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, vowed no new deficit spending? Does anyone remember when then Sen. Obama said, "I rise, today, to talk about America's debt problem. The fact that we are here to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure and our government's reckless fiscal policies"? At the moment the debt is over $17 trillion and well on its way to $30 trillion over the next 10 years. Progs have gone stark raving insane with deficit spending and they have nearly doubled the debt during the last six years. That should scare the heck out of everyone who has to get up every morning and go to work and take care of business and their families and watch as the Ruling Class Elitists in that commune on the Potomac take whatever they want from the American people's paychecks before they are allowed to get what's left over. Had the Ruling Class Elitists maintained annual deficit spending at $162 billion during the last six years, more than $7.6 trillion would have been saved and the interest on the debt (which buys us nothing) would also be much lower. Contemplate these wise words from one of our founders: "We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...[we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow sufferers...and this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for [another]...till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery...And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." Thomas Jefferson. And one other thing: three years ago Progs created the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). That sorry scheme has already started with its looting and controlling and its meddling, tinkering, intruding and interfering in every aspect of our lives, our children, our families, our schools, our churches, our doctors, our hospitals, our faith, our farms, our energy sources, our communities, our private property, our healthcare and our businesses. Clearly, in my humble opinion, Obamacare has to be the most evil scheme to ever be jammed down the throats of the American people. As I see it, the answer to the question above is that Progs and their endless herds of unelected harassacrats are what's wrong with Congress. To help correct that situation and to truly help them in the matter of "moving the country forward," I believe that the taxpayers must fire every Prog at every level of government and replace them with people who believe in our Constitution and who will govern accordingly. There should be no doubts that Progs should never be in charge of anything. Donald W. Stauffer Downey
