UCLA alumni group hosts first meeting

DOWNEY - Last Thursday, Oct. 3, saw the launching of the Southeast Cities UCLA Network ("The Network"), a coalition that aims to bring together the region's 5,000-plus alumni through social, business and charitable events.The group hosted their first meeting at Downey Brewing Company, where they watched the No. 11-ranked Bruins defeat Utah. Event co-hosts Miguel Duarte and Christine Flores placed the capacity crowd at over 70 guests. The Network covers the southeast area of Los Angeles County and includes the cities of Downey, Norwalk, Montebello, Whittier and Cerritos, among others. Downey Mayor Mario Guerra -- a Bruin himself -- delivered welcoming remarks and led the crowd in UCLA's official cheer, the "8 Clap."
