Crime Report: Aug. 19, 2025
On August 5 at 8:55 pm, officers responded to the 7-11 located at 13034 Downey Ave., regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred. The store clerk advised that a suspect wearing all black and armed with a black handgun entered the store and demanded money from the cash register. In fear for his safety, the store clerk emptied the register. The suspect took the money and fled northbound out of sight. Detectives are currently investigating.
On August 6 at 4 pm, officers responded to a solo traffic collision in the 9000 block of Imperial Highway. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 54-year-old male Downey resident was riding an electric scooter westbound on the south sidewalk of Imperial Highway when he lost control and was ejected from the scooter. The rider sustained major injuries and was transported to St. Francis Medical Center. He is currently in critical condition.
On August 8 at 2:35 pm, officers responded to the east side of The Studio Inn on Columbia Avenue regarding a male possibly deceased in a brown minivan, which was parked along the curb. Upon arrival, officers detected a foul odor emitting from the vehicle. Officers made entry into the vehicle and discovered a deceased male adult inside the vehicle. Detectives, along with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, responded to the scene. The cause of death is currently under investigation.
