DOWNEY — One of the Southland’s fiercest high school football rivalries is getting a bigger stage this fall. Downey High School and Warren High School will square off at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson on Friday, Oct. 24, marking the first time the annual crosstown showdown will be played at the professional venue. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The matchup, which annually draws thousands of students, alumni, and families from across Downey, has long been the highlight of the local prep season. Last year, Warren claimed victory on the field, but Downey went on to win the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship, ensuring that anticipation is once again high for this fall’s clash.

“This rivalry is special because it’s about so much more than football — it’s about community pride,” said Downey head coach Jack Williams. “Getting to showcase it at a professional stadium is an honor for both schools.”

Warren head coach Adam Leonard said the setting will elevate the experience. “This game is always circled on the calendar and playing it at a world-class venue like Dignity Health Sports Park will make the experience unforgettable for our players, families, and community.”

The 125-acre complex in Carson is home to Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy and has hosted events ranging from NFL games to Olympic trials. It will also serve as a key venue for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Downey Unified Superintendent Dr. Roger Brossmer called the move an opportunity to highlight the city’s school spirit. “This is more than a football game… it’s a celebration of our students, schools, and community spirit.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 22, through the AXS app.
