Daredevils, aerialists return with Downey circus
DOWNEY — The big top is returning to Downey as the Marinelli Bros. Circus begins a more than two-week engagement at Stonewood Center on Friday, Aug. 21.
The circus, which made its Downey debut last year, will remain at the shopping center through Labor Day, Sept. 7, with performances scheduled most days.
This year's production features a new ringmaster, new aerialists and daredevil performers, along with a motorcycle globe in which riders perform inside a spherical steel cage.
The Marinelli Brothers also return with their trampoline wall and Wheel of Danger acts. Matti the Clown is also back, along with trapeze and aerial strap performances, costumes, music and pre-show activities for children.
Performances will be held under the big top at Stonewood Center, 251 Stonewood St.
Opening night is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Weekend dates generally include multiple performances, including three shows on Saturdays at 1:30, 4:30 and 8 p.m. The final day, Monday, Sept. 7, will feature shows at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. There are no performances scheduled Aug. 25 or Sept. 1.
